Let's Close the Gap Together.

OUR MISSION:

To help St. Charles School District 303 students access equal learning and academic opportunities regardless of obstacles created by race, culture, primary language, financial circumstances, family situation, or personal hardship so that every student within the St. Charles School District has an equalized opportunity for academic achievement.

Why does the St. Charles community need STC L.E.A.R.N.?

We acknowledge the inequalities.

Qualifiers of inequality can include race, gender, culture, language, financial situation, or family circumstance.  All students have a set of advantages and/or obstacles created by whatever opportunities they may or may not have.  While these advantages and obstacles have nothing to do with intelligence and natural capabilities, they can impact outcome, success, and overall academic achievement.

We notice the gap.

As in most communities, a portion of students in the St. Charles School District experience large "gaps" in equality regarding the outside resources their family can access  due to obstacles created by lack of privilege.  While families with resources can assure that their children receive extracurricular support and academic "boosts" outside of school, families with less privlilege cannot.  So, the "gap" in learning continues to widen.  In addition, the recent pandemic and need for remote learning has magnified this gap.

We can help.

STC L.E.A.R.N. partners with D303 families to assist with the funding of logistical and/or academic supports required to provide equal learning opportunities for their students so we can work together to "close the gap".

With a referral from a D303 staff member, any family in the district can apply for funding from STC L.E.A.R.N. to help secure the additional extracurricular academic resources they feel their child may need.

"Until we get equality in education, we won't have an equal society."
